All,

I will be the release manager for the October release of the OPM Flow
simulator. At the moment I picture the following timeline for the release, with
two tentative release candidates before the final release. My fellow developers
should pay particular attention to the feature freeze and bug fixing deadlines.

  *
Feature freeze, i.e., the deadline for merging new features into the master
branch: Thursday the 10th of October, 6pm CEST
  *
Creating release branches and tagging the first release candidate: Friday the
11th of October
  *
Packages for the first release candidate: Monday the 14th of October
  *
Bug fixing deadline for RC1: Thursday the 17th of October, 6pm CEST
  *
Tagging second release candidate: Friday the 18th of October
  *
Packages for the second release candidate: Monday the 21st of October
  *
Bug fixing deadline for RC2: Thursday the 24th of October, 6pm CEST
  *
Tagging final release: Friday the 25th of October
  *
Packages for final release: Monday the 28th of October
  *
Testing final release packages: Tuesday the 29th of October
  *
Announcing final release: Wednesday the 30th of October

I would like to stick to this timeline as much as possible, although previous
experience suggests that unforeseen issues might present during the release
process. I will shortly create the 2024.10 milestone in all pertinent GitHub
repositories, and I encourage developers to start tagging active PRs with this
milestone if the work is intended to go into the 2024.10 release.
