Hi all, I wanted to summarize a few of the releng topics I was involved in at the OPNFV Plugfest last week. Thank you all who attended the sessions I lead! There was a lot of great feedback from the projects as well as the OpenStack community.
* Automating Release[1] This topic was initially structured around how we might automate the creation of Jenkins jobs for stable branch. The Kolla PTL raised the point that OpenStack has a different approach[3] to managing releases which involves projects specifying hashes for their branch and tags in a file. This would solve our problem as the automation around creating gerrit branches could be expaneded to also create Jenkins jobs. David McBride is currently looking into how we might adopt this. * Docker Infrastructure & Builds[3] With 15+ projects publishing 40+ Docker repos supporting multiple architectures, managing a 'one-size-fits-all' approach in Releng is not scaling well. We didn't reach a clear conclusion the best way to proceed, but we did agree to continue the discussion here. One thing that did come out of this dicussion is that it's clear we need more documentation around how to add builds to Jenkins and how to use docker for development in OPNFV. * Common Logging[3] From my understanding there is a need for logs from OPNFV deployments in our CI environment. How these logs are collected is still up for discussion: whether we ship them to a central server or uploading them to artifacts.opnfv.org. This is currently supported by Fuel & Armband but not other installers.
