*Location: Palo Alto, CA* *Duration: 9 Months* *Title: Scala Developer* SUMMARY: For our growing team, Angie's List is seeking a talented and motivated Senior Software Engineer. The candidate must possess good communication skills, and enjoy problem solving both independently and in team settings. This candidate should be incredibly sharp and possess the desire, drive and energy that is needed to launch new products utilizing Agile Methodologies. DUTIES: * Driving the development of Java/Scala/Python web applications and services * Work with different teams to develop, integrate and consume services or APIs. * Provide good design for requirement specifications. * Produce shippable code that adheres to coding guidelines and standards * Development focus is on performance oriented software design utilizing best practices in software development. * Participate in code reviews of fellow developers. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE: * BS or MS Degree in CS/EE or equivalent * 7-10 years' experience in web architecture and development utilizing various technologies including Java/J2EE, Scala and python * 4+ years' experience developing consumer websites. * 3+ years' experience preferred using SCM and unit testing tools. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: * Extensive knowledge of Linux/Unix operating system environments. * Experience with programming languages such as Java/J2EE, *Scala*, JavaScript * Experience with latest web technologies such as HTML 5, CSS 3, * Experience with Python/DJango a plus. * Experience with debugging tools and techniques * Experience with of relational databases (MySQL) and SQL querying tools * Experience with Search Methodologies including SOLR/Lucene experience is a plus. * Experience in profiling tools and performance instrumentation is a plus. * Experience with Agile and Continuous development and deployment techniques * Excellent written and communication skills ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: * This position occasionally requires more than 40 hours per week and some evening work.
