Position: manufacturing Associate 2 Duration: 12 Months Location: Mailford ,MA The Manufacturing Associate in Shire’s Milford, MA, biomanufacturing facility is part of the Cell Culture group with responsibility for the upstream operation of process and ancillary equipment (in compliance with CGMP regulations) to produce Obizur, an FDA-approved drug for the treatment of Acquired Hemophilia-A. *The schedule for this position is four 10-hour days: Sunday–Wednesday, 7:00 am – 5:30 pm. * • Operate process equipment such as: (1) expansion of mammalian cells in roller bottles and flasks, (2) automated and manual cell culture systems supporting cell growth, expansion, and harvesting systems, (3) viral inactivation mixing systems • Operate BSC’s, microscopes, incubators, mixing equipment, automated cell culture harvesting equipment, conductivity meters, autoclaves, and other manufacturing equipment • Complete required documentation and work with other operators on proper GMP recording of entries and comments in batch records, forms and protocols • Perform real time Production Batch Record review prior to submission to supervisor. • Clean equipment and parts for use in CGMP operations using manual systems and Glassware washer. • Prepare equipment and assemblies to be autoclaved and operate Autoclave. EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE Candidates will be considered at various levels including High School diploma with experience in a biological manufacturing in a CGMP environment through recent college graduates with a degree in a scientific discipline such as biology or biochemistry. Biotechnology Certificate desirable. The following attributes are also essential to this position: • Attention to Detail - being careful about detail and thorough in completing work • Adaptability/Flexibility - being open to a considerable variety of schedules according to changes in production • Dependability - being reliable, responsible and fulfilling obligations especially in regards to working in a team environment and in a leadership as needed WORKING ENVIRONMENT • Manufacturing environment with potential chemical, electrical and physical hazards. • Personal protective equipment must be worn in the laboratories according to Corporate safety requirements. • Possible exposure to cool/hot storage conditions. • May work around chemicals such as solvents, acids, bases and reactive or flammable materials. • Pace may be fast and job completion demands may be high. PHYSICAL DEMANDS May be required to stand for long periods of time while performing physical duties. Must be willing and able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). May be required to lift up to 30 lbs. Must be able to work safely with materials and equipment.
