Rachel,
I guess if I were an author, I would want to avoid any confusion. Then
again, maybe most people are already quite sure of the author and title when
purchasing. I am.
How about a title of Make SQL Run Faster Without Using Joe's Undocumented
Parameter ;-)

I am NOT a fan of Tolkein. I have read the Lord of the Rings trilogy and
The Hobbit, seen the Bakshi version of the trilogy and the cartoon version
of The Hobbit.
Don't sit on anything that has a zero at the end. Read the 8.1.7.2 readme, and you
will see what I mean.

Hello all,
Sorry I was sick, therefore not able to answer.
I followed suggestions from Pulikkol, Swapna and Jon, and it works just fine now.
Thanks to all for getting me out of this one.

Brian,
I guess I wasn't clear about what I wanted to do. I would like the
files under $ORACLE_BASE/admin/$ORACLE_SID/adump, bdump, cdump and udump
to have permissions of 644 WITHOUT having to manually change them. Yes,
I could always go in and change the permissions on the files. What I
would
I have an insert statement that is hung waiting for a type 4 lock. I have dug
around a bit and found that a common problem is not enough space for ITL in
block headers.
However, the table in question is set at Oracle defaults - 10% free 40% used,
initrans 1, maxtrans 255 on a 4K block size.
Since setting oracle's umask (AIX) or something like it on Sun is the only thing
that comes do mind and doesn't seem like a good idea, what about just making
this backup process have oinstall as a secondary group. You can belong to
more than one group, no?
