To avoid this problem on cleaning Registry what I do know (after painful rebuilds of machines) is before I install any new Oracle Software, I export (Backup) the oracle key from the registry and save it with a proper description i.e.. Reg_before_9iAS, then I proceed to do the installs etc. etc.
