Separate instances -- good idea, it'll be easier to move the warehouse to
its new server once you find what it does to your OLTP users. I hope things
work out for you and you figure a way to insulate the two instances from
each other. We run a lot of OLTP instances on the same server, but boy that
I have been leaning toward bringing up another instance, and I think I will
go that route. The new data that will hold 100's of GB will not tie into
any of the data currently in our OLTP database.
I will also have more flexibility to tune each instance separately for their
specific needs.

of records returned". We thought we would start our DW economically and
store it with an existing OLTP system. Bought a separate server real quick.
