I knew that there was a simple answer but was having a senior moment. The
error messages didn't help any either.
I can't help but ask myself why they made TRUE the default.

that point to
Instance 'A' on
server 'A'. When I tried the link I get an ORA-02085 which says the link
name must
be the same as the instance name.
Any ideas why they do not work the same?
