I’d like to ask you about how to prepare windows 2000
environment so I can set Oracle Parallel Server on it, aside from networking
problem. As I read the doc, I have to set up raw disk and prepare the OS by
installing some options to prepare for the parallel server. The
9iRAC install on TruCluster that way]. In that case, only one
ORACLE_HOME needs to be patched !
Data Dictionary scripts are against the database so they need to be run
only once.

Linux/Intel32) on Mandrake 8.2 Linux (kernel 2.4.18-6mdk

not get confused between DD and RMAN because DD is an OS utility and RMAN
is an oracle util

I have one application which is running on Oracle 8.1.6.But most of time CPU

We are using OPS quite intensively here. Not necessarily for the correct reasons.
OPS certainly assists in maintaining uptime under a lot of circumstances. It is excellent for spreading workload between nodes/instances but you still have to design access to point to

It was DG/UX on DG Aviion Systems, with Clariion
storage system. We were sharing filesystems between
2 nodes.
Don't know about the rest of DG, but EMC purchased
their Clariion storage system unit.

Compaq is working with Oracle to pre-install and ship
Oracle9i on there NT boxes (not sure about TRU64 or

Even more importantly, if you are planning on implementing parallel server
just "to increase your processing power" then you are going to be in
trouble!
If you haven't specifically designed your application for parallel server,
you can end up DECREASING performance by increas

your current environment then it won't scale in OPS. You
will just end up with more performance issues.
You will also need to buy licenses for all these products
as well.

Unless things have changed redo and controlfiles must be raw. When I took the OPS course several years ago and worked with OPS we needed the redo/controlfiles to be on raw so that one instance could recover when another instance failed
