While it is possible to copy /mnt_point/app/oracle tree to a different host and still get oracle to run, you might be in for a RUDE surprise in the future. After I copied an 8.1.6 tree onto a test system earlier this year, Oracle refused to allow it to be upgraded to V8.1.7 because the "inventory
