I am running Caldera Linux 2.5 (?) and Oracle 8.1.7 rel 2. Installed
cleanly. Runs flawlessly.
This is a personal sandbox not production.

That's interesting. I have an 8.1.6 and 8.1.7 installation cd, and RH6.2 .
Tried installing 8.1.7, and it died with the "800%cpu" thing. 8.1.6

I too am interested in this, I have a PC with a single PIII 800, 256mb RAM,
Win2K, and was thinking of partitioning my drive, and loading Linux on to
the seperate partition. I already have 8.1.7 on Win2K, and was thinking of
loading 8.1.6 on to Linux. Any gotchas with this set up? Has anybody done
