That is correct, you will need to run the enterprise Manager Configuration
Assistant. It will configure your oms to work with a OEM repository.
When you run the oms for the first time you will use username sysman password
oem_temp it
will prompt you to change this value.

start.

then it's dead. cant start the service.
even if i solved the ORA-12638 by help of another DBA,
it's still the same.

using Oracle8.1.6 on Win2000 Advance Server,
and the Oracle
break out the docs on oem.
you have to set it up but MOST not all of OEM stuff will run standalone
w/o a management server.

You need to install it. The Console talks to a Management Server, which
in turn manages the agents and other processes that monitor the database etc.
You really oughtta read the basic installation manual. Not much, just like
the first page or two might help.
