I've tried this at home, and the scripts worked exactly like they do on
Linux. Note that doesn't mean they always work *correctly*, they just work
the same.

Open LDAP has issues.
Do a search on slashdot.org for commentary on it. I was quite surprised
at how many folks had problems with it that prevented them from using it.
Made me feel a bit better about never getting it to work. :)

for "system" is "manager". If it isn't, the installation doesn't proceed.

Hi,
We had this problem too (Solaris 2.7/EE8.1.6, penguin/EE8.17). I've created
the DB manually (stay in the lower meg-range), erased the echo "Oracle
Internet Directory Configuration Assistant" lines in the ldap/postcfg/postcfg
skript (starting at echo "Creating OiD schema...") and ran it manu
Deinstall the product and reinstall it. You may also configure OID manually.

Thanks for all the information Greg. One more question. What's an oracle names proxy? I thought names was going away entirely in 9i.

Failover information in Oracle Internet Directory (OID) is entered like Net8
configuration information. You can import the exact information that is in
your TNSNAMES.ORA into OID, so if you can code failovers in TNSNAMES.ORA you
can put it in OID as well. So you would handle failovers using OID
