Mark, Your friend does not say how large the variable is, being referenced by the 'out' parameter. My guess is that it is varchar2(256). Have him simply increase the size of the variable in the calling procedure to accomodate the data, and all should be well.

I have tried explicitly setting the type of p_out_parameter to a table column of type varchar2(2000), but I still get the error. Apparently, the out parameter has a buffer capacity of 256 characters.
