We recently had a request from our 'Quality' department to put a web enabled
application out on our internet server which was going to use Access as the
database. Boy, oh Boy, you should have heard the scream that came out of SA's.
It was going to require a permanent bunch of holes in the corporate firewall
large enough to let even the most inexperienced hacker in. End result, the
project is being re-written to use Oracle as the backend DB. Basically the SA's
were concerned that we'd have a firewall in name only. Add to that that Access
does an every 5 milli second ping on the db file when used multi user & the
network folks went up in arms. Boy that was a FUN meeting & all I had to do as
sit back & watch. Someone pass the popcorn & beer PLEASE!!!

I don't know of any comparisons but unless you have only a very tiny amount
of data and you expect only one connection to the database at a time I would
not use Access.

We are developing web database standards in my workplace. I need to
identify advantages/disadvantages of using Oracle verses MS Access for web
databases.

Does anyone know of any good resources for gathering this info (web sites,
articles, etc)? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Maria
