*Job Description*
The Software Developer (RoR) participates in the design, development,
documentation, analysis, creation, testing and modification of computer
systems and programs based on and related to system design specifications
at Vubiquity. He/she is expected to be highly skilled and proficient in the
theoretical and practical application of specialized knowledge related to
computer systems, analysis, programming and software engineering while
working independently and without close supervision.
Responsibilities:
_ Define, design, and implement solutions for high-performance
systems using data processing applications, home grown tools, Unix tools
(Ruby on Rails, Perl and other emerging technologies
_ Develop prototypes rapidly for evaluation and validation purposes
_ Define, design, and implement databases and database changes to
support new features and enhancements
_ Document code and system designs
_ Provide application support and systems maintenance
_ Perform research and analysis on needs and possibilities
_ Lead and mentor junior staff members
Qualifications:
_ Desired Special Skills:
o Fluent in multiple programming languages and ability to learn new
ones easily
o Strong experience with Ruby on Rails, Perl, Postgres, MongoDB and
Linux/Unix
o Large scale datasets and optimizations
o Contributions to open source community
o Experience with large-scale and distributed software architectures
_ Requirements:
o Minimum of 3-5 years' experience
o Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field required
o High level of proficiency in basic computer skills with a passion
for technology
o Strong problem solving and troubleshooting capabilities
o Ability to learn new skills quickly with minimal guidance
o Dedicated to achieving project schedules and milestones
o Ability to work in a team environment with aggressive deadlines and
multiple priorities while staying a team player
o Strong oral and written communication skills, as well as strong
interpersonal skills
o Strong attention to detail
o Self-starter able to work with minimal supervision
o Strong database knowledge and SQL language, especially Postgres.
