Sr. Linux Systems Engineer for Red Hat Linux function is responsible for
design, build, run & maintain Linux Systems, proactively improve
engineering standards, patch management, pre-sales support & capacity
planning, and give direction & support to offshore staff while maintaining
SLAs and service reliability.



OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



• Knowledge, Skills and Expertise

o Deep knowledge of principles, practices and theories in UNIX / Linux
technologies.

o Understand and adhere to Information Security policies and standards

o Execute allocated OS support tasks. Services are provided to both
external as well as internal customers. Tasks include standard request
support, break/fix support, proactive management, trouble-shooting, problem
monitoring/resolution etc. relating to backups, monitoring, patch
management, storage, hardware, and related components.

o Ensure that any potential problems i.e. performance degradation,
reliability and security issues are addressed pro-actively.

o Resolve all problems within targets as specified in SLA, minimizing
response time in reacting to problems and queries.

o Minimize Mean Time To Repair (MTTR).

o Participate in identification and root cause analysis of repeating
problems and escalation to the responsible party for recovery and future
prevention.

o Participate in situation management

o Participate in the on boarding of new services from when systems moves
from project into production phase,

• Use of end-to-end ITIL processes and tools (such as Service Center) in
order to manage incidents, changes, assets, and service interruptions.

• Involved in any operational changes to the service, organization, tools
and processes

• Interface with other parts of delivery organization in an open and

• Work to solve problems, produce documentation, and share learning with
counterpart teams.

• Participate in on-call pager rotation for reactive support and respond to
monitoring alerts in a timely manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist with Design, Build and operational efforts of RedHat & SuSE Linux
Platforms.

• Assist with Design, Build and operational efforts of HP UX and Solaris
Systems.

• Operate effectively with minimal supervision and within a clear
accountability framework.

• Act as situation engineer/ specialist, lead After Action Reviews and
conduct root cause analysis.

• Liaise with OS / Application Support Engineer on
formalization/documentation of processes, procedures, standards,
guidelines, Automation, etc

• Provide Linux / UNIX specific services to other parts of the organization
such as Service, Engineering and other Run & Maintain teams.



QUALIFICATIONS:

• 6+ years experience working with an enterprise-scale Unix/Linux server
environment.

• Extensive Linux server experience: Red Hat 4, 5 ,6 & SuSE Linux 9/ 10 /
11.

• Experience with HP-UX and Solaris

• Understanding of SAN technologies including management of LUNs, HBAs,
etc.

• Proficient with VERITAS Volume Manager, File systems and Cluster Server.

• Understanding of TCP-IP, VLANs, Firewalls, DNS, Authentication, NFS, etc.

• Experience administrating servers that host Oracle including Oracle RAC

• Knowledge and experience of ITIL including Configuration, Change,
Incident, Problem, and Release Management

• Understanding of Unix/Linux security best practices

• Scripting knowledge and proficiency including shell, Perl, etc.

• Comprehensive performance analysis and troubleshooting experience

• Excellent English oral and written communication skills

• Works well independently and as part of local, regional and global teams
with little supervision



EDUCATION:

• Bachelor of Science degree in the IT field or Computer Science

• Red Hat / SuSE Certified Engineer is a Plus
