Does anyone perhaps know which species were used to make the first orchid
hybrid. According to the Hortus Veitchii Calanthe x Dominii was the first
hybrid orchid to bloom, although not the first seedling to be raised by hand.
Does anybody know the name or parentage of the first hybrid

The first hybrid to flower was Calanthe Dominii (sometimes spelled Dominyi),
however, Rolfe says He (Mr. Dominy) is said to have commenced with the
genus Cattleya, but the first hybrid which reached the flowering stage was
Calanthe Dominii This is the plant, that upon viewing it,
