In my shopping experience, I have noticed both cheap clones as well as seed-grown orchids in these stores, although stores tend to have one or the other (I've seen lots of seed-grown at Frank's, while WalMart seems to have more clones). I suspect from the grower and seller point of view is which one can be brought to market faster.

As for paphs, I know that the Orchid Zone sells lots of seed-grown ones to Trader Joe's, at least in California. I've even been visiting Terry when the buyer comes around! They also sell miltoniopsis and other plants, as available. I suppose it's a good way to get rid of the "duds." But perhaps buying habits are different in California, although my own experience in selling at orchid shows is that a pretty flower at a fair price will usually sell.
