[OGD] Foliar Feeding

I had a problem comprehending what OGDers expect of "foliar feeding" but was reluctant to weigh in to the subject out of deference to blaspheming the mystic beliefs of devotees of the art.  Leo's post [OGD V7 #369, Message 5] says it all. The concept of "foliar feeding" is based on t

When I invented my fertilizer ( Green Jungle) I spent 9 years trying to figure it all out. I went to the jungles of Peru, Borneo and others and studied everything. Soil, water, leaf analysis, temperature everything. One thing I discovered was that Orchids have fixed open stomata which allow the

With regard to the mechanism of foliar absorption of nutrients, John Stanley [OGD V7#372 message 3] is right; the wonder is not the advantages of foliar feeding but that it can taker place at all.  As I recall, it was Tom Sheehan who obtained experimental evidence for its existence, but I di

Title: Foliar Feeding. Steve, thank you for the reference. I am not too sure that they are authorities but it does provide food for thought, at least for Cattleya culture. The fact that they list Cymbidium as a CAM plant causes me to be cautious. Private research in The Netherlands has not co

You are aware that not all orchids have fixed stomata. Paphs for instance can open and close them. CAM plants, which are mainly the hard leaf type orchids cannot regulate their stomata that well from what I understand, such as Cattleya. ST Orchids> When I invented my fertilizer ( Gre

Leo, Where does this rant come from? I have used foliar feeding for some time and I simply am not impressed with the results in general, but it has its specific uses. For orchids, foliar feeding through misters is typically a bad idea for adult plants, as the water can easily get caught in
