"Lee" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> spaketh thusly: >I'm interested in learning more about how scent/fragrance works in >orchids. Olfactory and chemical >investigations by Roman Kaiser. 1993. ISBN 0-444-89841-7 >Familiar with the author's work? Has anyone studied this or other >texts? Do you know of a more recent study?
I would argue the text is very easy to find (bookfinder.com lists 11 copies right now), but Lee is quite correct in that the asking price is the sort of thing that causes heartburn. Recommendation: check eBay now and again. I purchased my copy for a bit less. As for the contents- although highly informative, a background in chemistry is recommended. Kaiser works (as recently as a year or two ago) for Givaudan, and his published papers hit the mainstream now and again. I don't know if he's an organiker or analytical, but understanding both of these aspects is very important before dropping a couple of Benjamins on the text. A search on scholar.google.com reveals 379 hits with the search string 'Kaiser orchids,' the first page of which is entirely papers of which he is an author, co-author, or referenced. The body of literature appears to be substantially larger than I had thought.
