Anything is possible if you're careless. Fungus & bacteria are generally transferred through water standing on leaves or in the crown, rarely in flowing water. The rules for orchid virus are basically the same as for AIDS, transmission through body fluids from an open wound or skin puncture, or unprotected sex (always have both prospective parents tested). Orchids in group plantings generally get their roots intertwined & possibly grafted, & virus is trnsmitted that way.
