For people who enjoy flying fur the CITES_L discussion list may be worth checking out. Being interested in conservation of orchids I joined that list some years ago and stayed for almost a year. OGD is a nice, quiet and polite forum compared to CITES_L, which (at least at that time) was a hissing hodgepodge of hysterical hate mail. There were hardly any postings about orchids, but lots on keeping birds in captivity and "animal's rights". I had to consult special phrasebooks on vulgar slang to understand just half of the words used. It seems to be very difficult to discuss nature conservation – or even a technical aspect of it like regulation of trade in endangered species – without stirring up quasireligious feelings and fanatism. So, enjoy the relative calm here – just skip the postings that are not on orchids, and, if you want to discuss political or ideological subjects, use the adequate lists. They are often much more lively and entertaining!
