I have been following this thread with interest and would like to share a
recent somewhat amusing experience. About a year ago, a Facebook (FB)
friend by the name of Nomura Yuko posted a video of her fold of Yamada
Katsuhisa's Pecking Kingfisher on FB together with a link to the diagrams.
Although I would not technically categorize these models as Origami, most of
the pieces shown are made paper strips that are folded, tightly wrapped, then
coated with acrylic of one sort or another to maintain rigidity, add color
and/or a faux finish while making them functional useable art
On page 41 in the May 2014 edition of Wired, there is a short article:
Origami in Space.
It mentions the prototype by Shannon Zirbel from BYU.

I asked about the name of a method for creating where I take general ideas
from other models and add them up in order to create a new model.
