Hi Vincent, Bernard and OSCAR friends.
Excuse me if this has already been resolved - Africa had to go to sleep in
the middle of it...

Hello Bernard,
Ok so then I think we have found a problem. When I install Linux (Redhat a
coupld years ago and now Mandrake), I always decline to make graphical mode the
default boot level. When the system boots I get a text login, and I normally
login in under a user account and then "startx".

Hi Vincent:
Okay glad that we're on the same page
:)
So I assume you have direct access to
console to your headnode, can you make it so that graphical mode is the default
boot level?
After that,
Hello Bernard,
I am doing everything exactly as you describe below, but thanks for the
outline. We are indeed on the same page. If I had to install OSCAR on all my
nodes I would not use it :)
So as hard as it may be to believe, I really am having a problem as described
in my previous email.

Hi Vincent:
I just want to clarify something... it sounds like you are trying to

- You o

successfully here's my process:
* Log into console under user account 'vtrandal' or 'test3' or any user
* Run "startx" under use
Hi Vincent:
I strongly suspect that you are seeing all these problem because OSCAR
is using the user 'vtrandal' to execute the programs - why? That's a
difficult question to answer.
I suggest you do a start_over, and make sure you are using the root user
to install OSCAR, then you can go back an
Hello Bruce,
Maybe there is an issue with permissions on ~/.ssh/ but please understand that
I typed the password wrong in the part you commented on:

Hello Ben,
Thank for the suggestion, but I think I asked the wrong question. I tried
running "cexec mount /home" from root on the server and (after asking for a
password) it says that it is already mounted per mtab on the client.
I am beginning to understand that the password prompts are normall
