At interfaith meeting, Nation of Islam leader touts anti-Semitic books By Amiram Barkat Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan recommended this week that the audience attending an interfaith session in Detroit should read what the Anti-Defamation League has called "notoriously anti-Semitic books," which charge Jews with running the American slave trade and controlling the American banking system. Farrakhan's recommendations included "The Secret Relationship Between Blacks and Jews" and "The Secrets of the Federal Reserve." Advertisement The ADL has condemned Farrakhan's reading list. "Farrakhan may have held his anti-Semitic views in check while on the dais, but if this is what he wants people to read, then the leopard hasn't changed his spots," said Abraham Foxman, the national director of the ADL. Although no prominent Jewish figures participated in the interfaith session, it received the support of Rabbi Marc Schneier of New York, the president and founder of the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding, a nonprofit organization that describes itself as dedicated to strengthening relations between ethnic communities. Rabbi Schneier also heads Kadima USA, the American affiliate of the Israeli political party. In his statement of support for the Detroit event, Schneier said he has previously been engaged in interfaith dialogue with Farrakhan and is aware of the importance of such meetings. +++ -------------------------- Want to discuss this topic?
