Backlash: Business drops dramatically at restaurant run by Fort Dix jihadist's father
http://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/016399.php The mainstream media, unable to come up with any lynchings of innocent Muslims by angry Islamophobic mobs, or any torchings of mosques, or any beatings, or much of anything at all, continues to report the "fear" of a "backlash" among the poor Muslims around Fort Dix, who of course hate terrorism and are shocked, shocked, that a jihad terror plot was hatched in their midst by their coreligionists. The best they can come up with to reinforce the claim to privileged victim status in this article is a door kicked in and a "racial slur" uttered, according to Muslim Tatar, the father of suspected jihadist Serdar Tatar. Muslim and Serdar Tatar are Turks, aren't they? So what "racial slur" was uttered? An anti-Turkish one? An anti-white one? The intrepid Star-Ledger reporters Jeff Whelan and Susan K. Livio don't tell us. Nor do they go to police to corroborate the lawyer's story of the door being kicked in. I mean, who would doubt it? After all, business has dropped off at Muslim Tatar's restaurant! Oh, the horror! Will the Islamophobia never end? Question for Whelan and Livio: where is your story interviewing the families of military personnel at Fort Dix, asking them how their lives would have been changed had this jihad plot succeeded? "Trouble descends on families of the Fort Dix terror suspects," by Jeff Whelan and Susan K. Livio for the <http://www.nj.com/news/ledger/index.ssf?/base/news-11/1178865586289360.xml& coll=1> Star-Ledger: One of their parents was arrested, another reported receiving threats, and a leader of the mosque where they worshipped is worried about a backlash. As the six men charged in the alleged Fort Dix terror plot face a bail hearing in Camden this morning, their family members and community are struggling with the fallout from Monday night's arrests. Ferik Duka, father of three of the suspects, also was arrested earlier this week, on immigration violations, and is in federal custody, two law enforcement sources said. His wife, Zurata, was also issued a summons but not taken into cus tody because the couple also has a 16-year-old son, said the sources, who requested anonymity. Federal investigators have found no evidence linking Ferik and Zurata Duka to the alleged plot by their sons Eljvir, Dritan and Shain, to kill soldiers at Fort Dix. But, one of the sources said, "You can't ignore the fact that they are here illegally...." Good. Richard Sparaco, representing Tatar, said his client will plead not guilty. He added that Tatar's arrest has taken its toll on Tatar's parents and the Cookstown restaurant run by his father, Super Mario's, not far from Fort Dix. Prosecutors accused Serdar Tatar of conducting surveillance of Fort Dix while working as a pizza deliveryman for the restaurant. Sparaco said that since the news broke, nearly all the employees at the restaurant have quit and business has dropped dramatically. He said Tatar's mother, who is in Turkey, is on the verge of a nervous breakdown and the defendant's father, Muslim Tatar, is distraught. "He has a feeling he is going to have to close up shop," the attorney said. According to Sparaco, Muslim Tatar said someone kicked in the front door of his house Wednesday night and shouted a racial slur. The elder Tatar has also received threats and "nasty messages," Sparaco said without elaborating. A leader of the South Jersey Islamic Center, where several of the suspects worshipped, said that while the Palmyra mosque has not received any threats, they fear they "are going to face a backlash." May 11, 2007 Fort Dix area Muslims condemn plot; say that Islam teaches peace Whew. Glad they cleared that up. Seriously, however, did it ever flicker across the mind of Burlington County Times reporter Todd McHale that he had heard this before? Or if McHale hasn't, surely one, at least one, reader of the Burlington County Times must have thought -- wait a minute. We always hear this. After every last jihad terror attack, and every last jihad terror plot, the local Muslim leaders condemn it and say that Islam teaches peace. Every time. And yet the attacks and plots keep coming -- attacks and plots by Islamic jihadists. So does the question ever flicker across anyone's mind? If it is really this open-and-shut a matter, if Islam really so clearly and decisively teaches peace, why do we keep seeing these stories? Why are there jihad terror attacks carried out in the name of Islam all over the world every day? After all, Christianity teaches peace. Buddhism teaches peace. Judaism and Hinduism teach peace. But what a religion teaches and what its adherents do are not always the same thing. And people of all religions have done rotten things in the name of the religion. And yet, and yet, we still do not see this today on a regular basis from Jews or Christians or Buddhists or Hindus, the way we do from Muslims. We do not see, practically every day, all over the world, Jews and Christians and Buddhists and Hindus committing violent acts, or plotting them, and <http://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/016351.php> saying they're doing it all for their God. We do not see it, but if what Zahida Rahman says here is true, we should -- if it's that easy, that is, for the adherents of a peaceful religion to misunderstand their religion so thoroughly. But how did the Fort Dix jihadists come to be such utter Misunderstanders of Islam? The Rahmans don't explain, and Todd McHale doesn't ask. By Todd McHale for the <http://www.phillyburbs.com/pb-dyn/news/112-05102007-1344365.html> Burlington County Times: PALMYRA - Zia Rahman apparently attended a prayer service with several suspected terrorists, but he said he never imagined the men were capable of plotting an attack against Fort Dix. "I have seen some of them (at the Islamic Center of South Jersey here) maybe four months ago," Rahman said of brothers Dritan, Shain and Eljvir Duka, three Cherry Hill residents who were among the six men charged Tuesday with conspiring to attack and kill U.S. soldiers at Fort Dix. Rahman, managing director of the Muslim American Community Association in Voorhees, Camden County, said he didn't know the brothers by name, but they seemed quite friendly when he spoke to them at the center on Garfield Avenue in Palmyra. "They came across as very polite and very respectful," Rahman said. "I could not believe that they could be involved in this. If it's true, I condemn it. "These guys are not supposed to be involved in this type of behavior. Islam means peace, love and compassion. We're not talking about violence and hostility," he said. Rahman's wife, Zahida, said anyone who believes that Islam or members of the mosque would promote this sort of illegal activity is misguided. "We don't have any extremists here," Zahida Rahman said yesterday after teaching a womans' group at the center. "We teach the Koran here. We don't teach extremism." She said she doesn't know why any Muslim would be connected to such unspeakable acts. "Islam doesn't teach things like that," Zahida Rahman said. "Islam means peace. Islam is not terrorism. In the Koran it says, "If you kill one person, you kill humanity. If you save one person, you save humanity.' " That's Qur'an 5:32. Rahman, like President Bush and many, many others, did not go on to quote <http://www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/quran/005.qmt.html#005.033> Qur'an 5:33. But I'm happy to help out. Here it is: "The only reward of those who make war upon Allah and His messenger and strive after corruption in the land will be that they will be killed or crucified, or have their hands and feet on alternate sides cut off, or will be expelled out of the land." How peaceful! Both Rahmans said they were saddened by the involvement of Muslims in the alleged plot, but they said they hope everyone understands that people are responsible for terrorism - not Islam. "In every religion there are good people and there are bad people," Zahida Rahman said. "Any community can have people who do something wrong. These guys did a bad thing. Their religion did not teach them of this." Then where did they get the idea that <http://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/016351.php> this was their religious responsibility? While the Rahmans said they would pray for the suspects, they also expect the judicial system to do its part and punish anyone found responsible for the Fort Dix plot. "Whether they are Muslim, Christian or Jew, they should be punished for this if it's true," Zahida Rahman said. She said she has some concerns about reprisals from those who want to blame the mosque, or Muslims, for the plot. Concerns. But nothing in the way of actual incidents, or even actual threats. Iowa Muslims fearing Fort Dix backlash Fort Dix is in New Jersey, but that ol' devil backlash is getting around. Muslims attacked! Lynched! Mosques torched! What's that? There hasn't been anything like that anywhere in the country? Not even one case? Prattling on about imaginary backlash is just a way to deflect attention from jihadist activity by Muslims in America, and to secure privileged victim status for Muslims? What are you, some kind of Islamophobe? "Fort Dix case puts Muslims in Iowa on edge: The accusations of a planned attack involving six Muslims in New Jersey have some residents here girding for a backlash," by Shirley Ragsdale for the <http://desmoinesregister.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070510/LIFE05/705 100355/-1/SPORTS01> Des Moines Register: Iowa Muslims are bracing themselves, fearful that allegations of a plot by six Muslim men to attack Fort Dix, N.J., will spawn new incidents of anti-Islamic harassment and bias. "Everybody was talking about" the FBI arrests of the men, said Ibrahim Dremali, imam of the Des Moines Islamic Center. "Some are afraid backlash may be coming. People are becoming cautious again. I've told them they have to be careful." That sentiment comes on the heels of a nationwide survey by the Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations, which counted 1,972 incidents of anti-Muslim bias in 2005, up from 1,522 in 2004. The 2005 figure, from the group's most recent tally, represents the largest number reported to the council, also known as CAIR, in its 12-year history. A bit of background Shirley Ragsdale missed: <http://www.frontpagemagazine.com/Articles/ReadArticle.asp?ID=18109> CAIR's Hate Crimes Nonsense by Daniel Pipes and Sharon Chadha. Ragsdale's article continues: The six New Jersey men, identified as "Islamic radicals" by the U.S. attorney for the District of New Jersey, Christopher Christie, were arrested Monday as two attempted to buy guns. Authorities believe the men were "inspired" by international terrorist groups, although not directly linked to a specific organization. The U.S. Attorney made it all up, you see? Nothing here about the plotters' video of men firing rifles while <http://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/016348.php> calling for jihad and shouting "Allahu akbar." Nothing about their <http://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/016350.php> video of Osama bin Laden and others who couch all their actions in the language of Islamic jihad. Nothing about what one of them <http://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/016351.php> said: "I'm doing it in the name of Allah." The U.S. Attorney is just imagining a connection with Islam, you see. That wicked Islamophobe. (F)AIR USE NOTICE: All original content and/or articles and graphics in this message are copyrighted, unless specifically noted otherwise.
