Siddiqul Islam alias Bangla Bhai, the top-most wanted militant and the
second in command of JMB, was arrested along with his wife and five
associates from village Rampur under Muktagacha upazila in Mymensingh
district yesterday at about 7:45am.

Chief of Jagrata Muslim Janata Bangladesh (JMJB) and member of the
Majlish-e-Shura of JMB Bangla Bhai was seriously injured as he was captured
after about 40 minutes of gunfight with RAB.

Just after five days of arrest of JMB kingpin Shaikh Abdur Rahman, the RAB
succeded to arrest his second-in-command.

After gathering information from Shaikh Rahman, the RAB launched a massive
hunt for Bangla Bhai at different places of the country.

Critically injured Bangla Bhai and his bodyguard Masud were taken to
Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for treatment and later they were
shifted to BDR Hospital in Dhaka by a helicopter.

Doctors of BDR Hospital operated upon Bangla Bhai and removed sprinters from
one of his eyes and belly, sources said.

House-owner Chan Mia fled before the elite-force RAB, with police-BDR
backup, tightened the noose around the militants' last den.

Following statements made by Bangla Bhai's wife Fahmida Khatun Rina, 22, who
was arrested early hours yesterday from a house at Ram Krishna Mission Road
in Mymensingh town at about 5:00am, the RAB arrested her husband.

RAB intelligence officer Sergeant Rafiq sustained bullet injuries in his
head and he was rushed to Dhaka Combined Military Hospital in a critical
condition.
Other injured activists of the outlawed Islamic outfit fired shots and set
off bombs being hemmed on all sides of their hideout.

The associates of Bangla Bhai charged a high explosive bombs just before
they arrested him, RAB officials said.

When the members of the elite force RAB asked Bangla Bhai to surrender his
associates charged bomb, RAB official said.
Director of the RAB Media wing Commodore Mashuk said, "Taking a tip from the
RAB intelligence, a team led by Lt. Col. Gulzar Uddin Ahmed from Dhaka
surrounded the house of Bangla Bhai at about 2:44 am."

Director of the RAB Intelligence wing Lt Col Gulzar told journalists that
RAB forces led by him raided the house of Chand Mia at Muktagacha on the
basis of confessional statements from Amanullah alias Ripon, arrested
earlier from Sylhet, and the wife of Bangla Bhai.

According to RAB officials, a team of RAB raided the house no 165/A/3 at
Ramkrishna Mission Road in the district town in search of Bangla Bhai. The
team arrested Fahmida, wife of Bangla Bhai, his son Shad Ibne Siddique, 2,
and an 'ehsar' member of JMB Imtiaz.

Fahmida, daughter of Ibrahim Khalil of Saghata in Gaibandha district was
married to Bangla Bhai about three years ago. Fahmida introducing her as
Zobaida and her son Shad as Zobaid instead of their real identity rented the
house about three months ago.

Arrested Imtiaz is the son of Nurul Islam of Jhenaigati in Sherpur district
and Masum is the son of Abdul Khaleque of Phulbaria in Mymensingh.

The law-enforcers recovered one SMG, one pistol, one magazine, three
bullets, battery-circuit for making bombs and two ram daos from the debris
of the house that went up in flames following the big explosion.

Local people said that Bangla Bhai--who was carrying a government-declared
bounty of Tk 50 lakh on his head--used to say his prayers in a Rampur mosque
by covering his head and bearded face with a scarf.
After hearing the news of arrest of Bangla Bhai Director General of RAB Aziz
Sarker flew to Mymensingh and expressed his great satisfaction over the
arrest.
IG of Police Abdul Qaayum said it was a great achievement of the members of
the law enforcers. He said all activists of the JMB will be arrested and
brought under trial. The arrest of Bangla Bhai was a great job done by the
law enforcers, he said.
