Israel develops anti-anthrax drug Researchers in Israel have developed an antibiotic agent that attacks both the anthrax bacteria and the toxins released into the bloodstream of an infected person. Scientists at the Israel Institute of Technology say the drug could be used to counter anthrax terrorist attacks. Anthrax affects animals and humans through spores that enter through open wounds and the digestive and respiratory systems. Once inside the body, the bacterium begins releasing an extremely poisonous protein into the bloodstream that paralyzes the immune system, leading to death. ------------------------ Yahoo!
