It’s impermissible to use force against Iran – Lavrov.

27.02.2007, 21.04

MOSCOW, February 27 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia thinks it impermissible to use
force against Iran, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in Moscow on
Tuesday in comments on respective statements by U.S. officials.

“Russia is not the country that is thinking about the use of force. We
are doing our best to resolve the problem diplomatically. We are using
our potential in full,” he said.

Meanwhile, Russia cannot disregard pronouncements by certain members of
the U.S. administration, including Vice-President Dick Cheney. “We are
doing our best to prevent this [the use of force]. We must be flexible,”
Lavrov said.

He called the recent progress in the North Korean nuclear issue.
“Washington and Pyongyang had shown flexibility and made tactical moves,
which unblocked the situation. We think the same can be done in the case
of Iran,” he said.
