Pakistan police arrest son of retired brigadier, two others over attempted
rocket attacks
By MUNIR AHMAD Associated Press Writer
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan
Pakistani police said Tuesday they had arrested three suspects, including
the son of a retired army brigadier, for attempted rocket attacks in and
near the capital this month.

The arrests were made Monday on information gleaned from eight Islamic
militants who were already in police custody for their involvement in the
three attempted rocket attacks, city police chief Iftikhar Chaudhry said.

"They are the main suspects and are now being questioned," he said.

Chaudhry didn't reveal the names of the suspects, but a senior security
official identified the trio as Khalil Wayin_ the son of retired army
brigadier Dural Rashid_ Ali Ahmad and Munir Ahmad.

"These terrorists had links with an outlawed militant group, and had brought
rockets from a tribal area," said the official on condition of anonymity
because he was not authorized to speak to the media.

Pakistan is a key ally of the United States in its war on terrorism. The
latest arrests come more than one week after the country's Interior Minister
Aftab Khan Sherpao said eight al-Qaida-linked militants had been captured
for their involvement in the attempted rocket attacks.

He said the suspects planted rockets on Oct. 4 in a park near the residence
of President Gen. Pervez Musharraf in Rawalpindi, a garrison city near
Islamabad, but only one fired and it landed inside the spacious park.

No one was wounded in the attack.

The suspects allegedly also tried to fire rockets again on Oct. 5 and Oct. 7
aimed at the Parliament building and the headquarters of Inter-Services
Intelligence spy agency in Islamabad, but the rockets were spotted and
defused.

Sherpao said mobile phones that were meant to trigger the rockets helped
authorities trace and arrest the first eight men.

The principle of "Fair Use" was established as law by Section 107 of The
Copyright Act of 1976. "Fair Use" legally eliminates the need to obtain
permission or pay royalties for the use of previously copyrighted materials
if the purposes of display include "criticism, comment, news reporting,
teaching, scholarship, and research." Section 107 establishes four criteria
for determining whether the use of a work in any particular case qualifies
as a "fair use". A work used does not necessarily have to satisfy all four
criteria to qualify as an instance of "fair use". Rather, "fair use" is
determined by the overall extent to which the cited work does or does not
substantially satisfy the criteria in their totality. If you wish to use
copyrighted material for purposes of your own that go beyond 'fair use,' you
must obtain permission from the copyright owner. For more information go to:
