Suspects mother 'married into al-Qaeda'

The mother of two Australian terror suspects being held in Yemen married a
member of Osama bin Laden's inner circle, it has been reported.

Rabiyah Hutchison wed senior al-Qaeda ideologue Mustafa Hamid, also known as
Abu al Walid al-Masri, during a two-year stay in Afghanistan in 2000 and
2001, The Australian newspaper report.

Her two sons are reported to be among a group of eight foreigners -
including a third Australian - with suspected links to al-Qaeda arrested in
Yemen last month over an alleged plot to smuggle arms to Somalia.

Ms Hutchison, who now lives in Lakemba in Sydney's south-west, is said to
have previously been married to Abdul Rahim Ayub, who set up a Jemaah
Islamiah (JI) cell in Australia.

Details of her marriage to Hamid are contained in a dossier compiled by the
Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO), which has monitored
her for several years, according to The Australian.

An intelligence source told the newspaper Australian-born Ms Hutchison was
more highly connected to "al-Qaeda central" than anyone else in Australia.

She was reportedly chosen by bin Laden's deputy, Egyptian doctor Ayman
al-Zawahiri, to help run a hospital in Kabul, Afghanistan.
