Mike, I agree that these are well covered in the User's Guide, and as I
write down what I usually say, it's pretty close to what Harrison has
written, or I've heard someone say. Still, I wrote down that section of my
usual opening, so here it is. Of course there are slight variations. -- Jeff

Susan,
On the video part of your question, I have also had cameras during an OS.
One suggestion that hasn't yet been mentioned -- introduce the camera people
and let people know how the video will be used.

Laura,
One thought to add to the wonderful repsonses you've already received.
A few years ago, I did a 2.5 day event with 6 people. It was a board
retreat and going in I had a hard time envisioning that they'd really need
all that time. They filled it fully. The dynamics were the same as a lar
I'd like to thank you Chris for your comments.
I was particularly happy to note your comparison re First People.
I don't have much more to add to the comments except to reiterate the point
that OS itself does not carry out a process or "do" anything with a theme /

Hi Susan,
I'm a little late into this discussion, so forgive me if what I have to say
has already been said. I recently did a session that mixed youth and adults

Susan,
I have no experience with attempts at "youth only" sessions, so I can offer
no advice there, except to say that if something feels closed, it probably

I have also tried to put myself in your shoes, as facilitator, and have
asked myself what I would do if someone announced a session and
Susan,
Regarding videotaping. In a company OS program I did, the sponsor asked
permission of the group at the beginning to do the video. If anyone didn't
want their discussion to be taped, they could simply make the request to
the camera man. The camera man got totally involved in the process,
hi laura.
you're getting some great advice, in my opinion. in haiti, we usually have
little idea how many will show up. sometimes it is many more than we
expected, sometimes, less. rsvp ing is not a common habit for many reasons

Laura--
I think that the advice you have received from Jeff, Michael, Michelle,
Susan, Ann is good.
My feeling is to keep faith with those who agreed to come, accept others at
the last minute if they appear (I don't know what the social norms are in
your country about responding to an RSVP--is it
