The Talking Stick has become sort of an "institution" in Open Space, if only
because it seems to fit with what we do and the way we do it. For those of
you who may not be familiar with it -- the talking stick is the singular
gift of the 1st Nation People of the North America. Doubtless other People
My personal feeling is that there is no right way to hold the stick. It is
not a ritual talking stick, it was a gift to the community passed through
those who were convening gatherings to use it and then pass it along.
There is a role for the talking stick as a form but many uses in practice.

Picking up from Ralph's thread on what you are doing while holding space,
I have been curious about what i/we do when we are opening space.
Do you hold an intention when opening the space? If so, what intention?
Is it just to give the directions in as simple yet inspiring

In the cultures of the West Coast of Canada here, there is definitely a
wrong way to hold a talking stick. Protocol is very important in ceremonies
here, in fact diplomatic relations can chill markedly over the way someone
