Thank you for the beautiful thoughts on listening. I say it is listening with
the heart, an open heart, but that is because I am often talking with church
folk who have lost trust such that having faith in others (and their God if I
may) is no longer intentionally available to them.
Bert, I'd like to follow up on what Bridgett and Joe have said. Change,
especially if authentically addressed, causes upset as you said, and the only
way through this upset is communication. (They think they are communicating
but they are mostly listening to themselves think) At this point I begin
Ralph, I'm new at this and so far have only done any of this on my own, so i
am always intrigued by the direction some of the conversations take. I would
like to suggest that perhaps what has open space work is that people are
suddenly and intentionally present to the present - leaving the future o
this helps - I have found this forum to be a great educational process

One thought that comes to mind is monasteries and convents. Wonderful spaces
for smaller groups. They are often constructed to bring residents together.
I've led retreats built around OS in these spaces and (I like to think )
because of the acknowledged presence of spirit, the listening is very
