Does any one have any info about using open space with young people ages 9 -
16? Are there any significant opportunities and factors to consider in
design?

Another person who is passionate about working with youth is Tim Merry -
working in Nova Scotia, Canada. He knows Open Space well as part of the
Art of Hosting. He has done a lot in this realm!!!
I've put him in cc, so you can connect with him if you like, (or maybe
he is even on this list???)
Go for it - nothing is more fun or rewarding than working with that
age (having used OS in both elementary and junior high age groups
within schools and outside).
The only difference for me is to keep the context and guidelines
really short and simple. They may even start writing up topics an

Well I bow to you, Ms. Christine, for inviting facilitating a team of
amazing facilitator- and non-facilitator-folks to weave story and
dialogue throughout that conference.
Other OS work with young people I have done include the US Scholar-
Athlete Games, with 850 young people ages 13-19 hel
Great suggestions here and so wonderful to hear of all the meaningful
engagements with youth.
I've hosted Open Spaces with the 6-9 year olds and I'll mostly repeat what
others are saying. Keep the opening short and simple. Invite them to draw
pictures in addition to words when they are posting the
Hi Brett and all,
I have just finished an Action Research Project engaging gr. eight boys in
conversations around the theme of masculinities/male youth culture using
OST within their school setting. They were super engaged and active in the
process and remarked on the freedom to explore the them

BTW, Brett, Lisa was the OS Diva who opened the space at the 2008 GS

Hi Brett,
What an exciting project! Does it have a name?
At the 2005 and 2008 Girl Scout National Conventions, girls aged 14-18
were part of intergenerational Open Space events. At the 2008
Convention, girls reported having the experience of being fully
listened to in big OST breakouts.
Hi, Brett -
I love working with young people in Open Space. You need only do the
same thoughtful pre-work you would with any group - design a question
that invites diverse thought and interchange around a topic, invite
for diversity, select a good big space, don't squish it into too short
