Purple route line. Does the above conversation still contain the optimum
method for changing the purple route line into something which allows the
detail of the intended road/path to be seen, i.e. not obscured? - I would
prefer dotted, not the current thick solid opaque purple.

Same here.
I had seen P Wat's screenshots with the modified lines (doted),
searched for the original topic with Jan's mod, modified my rendering
file, and have been always using it since then.
Mine is a bright kinda-fluo green color with big fat dotted line :)

It transpires that your GPXR file was still present in my device from
December 2014 - I had just forgotten why it was there in the list of map
styles, consequently I had reverted to using standard "OsmAnd" map.
However, there is a minor change you may be able to offer.

Does it work if you rename the Nautical render to Default? As far as I know
OsmAnd takes everything not found in the specified render file from
Default. Otherwise you might try to merge GPRXxx and Nautical.

To avoid confustion/disaster - do you mean?
(a) When running Osmand, go into "Settings", etc, and change something?
(b) Go into file manager, find Osmand, Rendering, find the file
"nautical.render.xml", and change its name to "default.render.xml"? If

The GPXR08.xml file is located in the render folder of Osmand.
I've shut down & re-booted the device, and re-started Osmand.

There are at least 3 possibilities, in the /data , /sdcard , or
/sdcard1 (external).
You probably have your files in the /data/(...something...).
Check if your GPXR08.xml file is placed inside the folder osmand is
really using ;)

Sorry for the delay. Been away (tolerating the thick line), then catching
up with normality at home.
So, now back to the problem.
(1) There is no SD card in this phone (it has no facility for it).
(2) There are Osmand rendering files (and many other Osmand files) in two
locations.
(3) The Osman
The "\osmand\rendering." is the "old" storage location as used by earlier
versions of OsmAnd.
Now that you did a new install, OsmAnd switched to the current (pre android
6.x that is) installation path which is "Android\data\net.
osmand.plus\files".
Simply copy that GPXR08.render to the new locatio

(a) Internal storage\osmand\rendering.

(b) Internal storage\Android\data\net.osmand.plus\files\rendering.
I then shut down Osmand, and re-booted the phone.

Good to know there is another supporter for Jan van Bekkum's "thin" and
"dotted" navigation line .
I use it in almost all situations.
It is a mystery why anyone likes the solid purple line.
Having the option to use either is even better.
