Let's say a customer replies, so I have a "New Message" waiting for me.
Let's say that I'm not going to reply right away, but I'm also not going to
close the ticket.
How can I make a message not keep telling me it is new without replying to
the customer?

If you can put the data you want into an HTML table, Excel can grab the data
from a web page. I do that for an internal product, and it works very well.
Just go to Data | Get External Data | New Web Query in Excel 2000. I think
it's similar in XP, too. It's not necessarily pretty, but it works.
