Just read VAD or VDD.
Note that the DS2438 must be powered. It is possible to power off the data
line, but that needs an external capacitor.

need now to read voltages and DC currents (1-15A range). For the later I got a
DS2438 and a Devicecraft hall-effect sensor. The resulting ~1A@12V sensitivity
would be satisfactory for me.

doesn't work. I will try compile newer owfs version later and report the

Oh no, I fully agree!
The only way working with OWFS and DS9490 are hacks: fall back to older
versions improves
