Paul, I do not know how others would imagine doing this, but I thought a bit about how that could be useful to me. My imagination is that I I would set up the polling via the comm channel so I can add, list or remove polling tasks. I would have the program sleeping on input from the channel

Hi Marty, I looked through the ownet C code and see your point completely. I've fixed the file descriptor leak and updated the persistent connection code as well. Any reason why you are opening and closing connections repeatedly (OWNET_init OWNET_close) rather than keeping one open and reusing it
