I have noticed that owfs stops responding every so often. It is not as
regular an interval as you are seeing, and I don't know what
specifically is causing it (USB failure or software failure). I simply
restart owfs and it takes care of it. I keep a list of sensors that

I think I had some troubles and you may need to use the --allow-other
switch. Without using this switch, I had troubles getting other
accounts to read the FS when not logged in as the user OWFS runs under.

I think your problem is that you are trying to create the file in the
fuse virtual OWFS and it won't allow that. Try creating it in a "real"
location like this:
cat temperature > /some/normal/file/directory/file1
That should work for you.
