Sorry for boring everybody with this again.
I found that the debugging was turned off during compile time in the debian
packages. - turned it on, and wrote a little script that adds a line "CRASHED
date" to the logfile and starts the owserver daemon again.
Here are all CRASHED dates including 2
during compile) but that froze owserver in a little while.

now the owserver daemon(s) were rock solid, and the bottom
line was that things worked well except during really dry periods (and I guess
most components in the chain are not specified for single-digit humidity
values).

We had a owserver 2.7p17 running on an old debian server, without problems. We
read from 3 serial devices (via a MOXA terminal server) using python/ownet and
java/ownet interfaces. there is only one instance from the java part, and one
from the python part, so there could be at most two requests
Recently I had problems with a temperature sensor. It used to work
fine, and all of the sudden it stopped working. Using the owread
program worked however.
I went into the code and noticed that in the ownet/connection.read
routine, a value of "None" is returned whenever a ping is received.

Hi everybody,
Wasn't there a debian build directory in owfs one of these days? Would
it be possible to merge in smurf's ubuntu/debian efforts (which
probably just means adding the debian directory)?
And: If I build as is (at least my debian) wants to install

You can try to find the corresponding stuff at smurfs page:
http://alt.smurf.noris.de/debian/
Search the owfs-devel archives for more info.
It seems that the current release (2.7p8) is not compiling under
debian. At least I did not succeed.

Same here, I thought our circuit somehow broke.
If I set the PIO high, the sensed goes down, but in the normal mode (PIO
low) I always get 1 for sensed.
Our version is 2.7p2 (and it worked when I installed this bit of hardware),
but I can't remember what we had before. I found the old packages 2.

Is there a maximum number of connections for owserver?
I have the problem that everything works well, but at some point
suddenly I can not read or write to the bus, and only restarting
helps. Also, at times, device disappear from the dir listing, and come
back at the next try.

Yes, that's on a moxa serial port server. Very weird software, but it
somehow works (most times). As I said, with 2.6p8 no problem, and
2.7p0 works on a different machine (sarge running 2.6.8) but not on

seems to be related to etch, any clues?
