yes ds2480b+ and ftdi 232 are very used
i bought 100 units last month, any linux have a usb device (including
usb, just 486 386 and 586 that don´t have one) a single chinese tablet
have one usb... usb is the today default connector

I use two DS2480B self built adapter with p13 and they seem to work fine.
I just pass -d /dev/ttyS1 parameter

As USB is availably on almost any computer today, I tend to use
DS2490 Interfaces most of the time.

The recent changes in "passive" -- dropping down to passive adapter if a
DS2480B chip isn't detected is because we now check many com port
combinations with long timeouts before declaring a DS2480B failure (flow
control, baud rates, ...)
