Update. And problem solved. It was the configuration file that did it.
I now have the HTTPD service running and telling me that it is 28.5C
in here, twice, from a pair of DS18B20 devices and attached to the
DS9097U who is using the FTDI based adapter, actually a second one.

OWFS for the Raspberry Pi.
