I attended the Milk,Mammals and Marsupials conference last year and there
was a session on infant botulism presented by L Potvin an IBCLE from Central
Coast Health Paediatrics in Gosford NSW. There was nothing that this lady
did not know about the disease having looked after a baby affected by it.
She stated that honey can carry the Clostridium Botulinum spore and should
not be given to infants under a year of age. She also included raw veges and
corn syrup in her carriers list. If anyone at your workplace attended the
conference they would have a transcript of her talk and I am sure she would
be happy to talk to anyone if you contacted her. Two references listed were
http://www.infantbot.org and
http://www.health.state.ny.us/nysdoh/consumer/botulism.htm.. Hope this helps
regards Julie.
