Nettle) To: Sally-Anne Brown Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, May 05, 2005 2:29 PM Subject: Treasurer must support midwives in Budget: Greens         5.05.05   Treasurer must support midwives in Budget: Greens   Greens Senator Kerry Nettle today on International Midwives Day backed midwives around the country who are calling on the government to ensure midwives have access to indemnity insurance and can practice.   Senator Nettle called on the government to ensure next week’s Budget allocates funding to midwives.   “Mothers in all states will lose access to midwives and be forced into expensive and unnecessary hospital based, and GP based anti-natal care if the government does not act to solve the indemnity crisis for midwives.” Senator Nettle said.   “It’s easy for the Treasurer to make jokes about parents having “one [child] for the country”, but he needs to back that with funding to ensure parents have real choices about who assist them at the child’s birth.”   “The Treasurer has let the insurance crisis for midwives drag on for too long.
