What matters is how much memory, CPU and disk you have for the load, not how
many DBs.
I have seen production systems with 100s of DBs that seem to work fine.
I suspect it has something to do with PortalSiteMapProvider.
Does it happen more on larger sites?
Does it happen more when the machine is loaded?
