I did the upgrade about 1 month ago now. I didn't have any issues with
it. Just make sure you take the farm offline properly before you do it.

I am doing a clean install of Sharepoint on a server that has never
hosted it. When running the configuration wizard it gets stuck on Step
5, registering the search service and produces the error above.
The server is 32 bit 2003 R2 and I ran all updates. Also remove and
reinstalle
