Seems even without this option specified, in the “Auditing” section looking at
a RADIUS request, it shows the username in both formats, stripped and
non-stripped and authentication seems to work great.
The only time I saw this as an issue is when the username needed to be stripped

In the realm configuration in packetfence you can choose to strip on the
portal/radius/admin, also you can add "strip" in the freeradius option
and it will add the configuration in freeradius.
