Noise from sampled sound playback (SndPlayResource) on T3 and E2

My software plays back 8k sampling rate (8-bit sample, 1 channel) voice recording in WAV format. It sounds great on Z71, Treo 600 and Treo 650. It always sounds great in the all the simulators. It sounds very noisy on my T3 unit and purportedly sounded incoherently on some E2s. My question is:
